Community Power: Saving a Community School

The people of Congo Town, an underserved community in Freetown, are standing up against a city council lease that threatens their only municipal school, recreation field, and community space. Having never been consulted by the city council on the 50-year lease of the land for US$0.05 a year for a church’s construction project, the community raised the alarm over the project's impacts on their children and social cohesion. Now, the community is suing the local government — a first in Sierra Leone!

Hear their voices demanding justice and a brighter future for their children.
